The safe way of contacting each other
October 2nd, 2009 by Oliver Berchtold
Do I need to reveal my phone number or email address? Can I as the seller contact the buyer?
We want to make Student 2 Student a safe platform where every student, whether they are female or male, feels comfortable and secure to sell and buy textbooks.

Therefore, it is up to you as the seller to define the contact method when you list your textbook for sale.

There are 2 contact methods available:
  • Seller contacts Buyer
  • Buyer contacts Seller

When do I use "Seller contacts Buyer"?
This is recommended when the seller doesn't want to give out the contact information such as phone number or email. With this contact method the seller does not need to provide any information to the buyer. The buyer will need to send his/her contact information for the textbook deal. The seller will receive the buyer's information to the email under which the Student 2 Student account has been created (Email shown when posting the textbook deal).

When do I use "Buyer contacts Seller"?
This is when the seller wants the buyer to contact him/her. With this contact method the seller can provide their phone number or email, which the buyer can request when he/she is interested in the textbook deal. The buyer will then contact the seller through that provided information. The seller just needs to wait util the buyer contacts him/her.

We do not publish any contact information on the Student 2 Student website itself, no matter what contact method you choose. We always send the seller and buyer the information via email. We do this so no internet tool can automatically get your information and spam you.

Additionally, the seller can choose the option ("Textbook available to public") so the textbook deal is only available for those students who have an active account on Student 2 Student. A student can only contact you for the textbook if he/she has an account with Student 2 Student and is from the same campus.
Online Textbook Price Comparison :: Find the lowest online textbook price in seconds
September 25th, 2009 by Oliver Berchtold
What do you do if you can't find the textbook on-campus? Not one student is selling the textbook you need?
Once again, we want to make sure you get the best deal possible and don't get ripped off.

We now have a feature that gives you an online price comparison of the book you are looking for.
When you search for a textbook, Student 2 Student will tell you if the textbook is available on-campus by another student and what online bookstore has is it available including its price (book and shipping).

We compare the pricing of over 20 online bookstores and tell you where you can get the textbook the cheapest.

Do I need an account to compare the textbook prices? No, you do not need an account. This is availale to anyone who would like to use it. The link brings you directly to the bookstore's website to purchase the textbook.

How do I use the Textbook Price Comparison Feature?
  • Type in your textbook into the search box at the top or go to Buy Books
  • Student 2 Student will list all the textbooks based on your entry. Click on the link "Compare Prices of online bookstores:..."
  • You will see any the online bookstores that carry the textbook you are looking for. (Ex: Click Here)
  • Decide who you want to buy the textbook from and then click on "Buy Now" to go directly to the bookstores website.
Hint: You have books both in "used" and "new" condition available.
Student 2 Student goes online!
September 10th, 2009 by Oliver Berchtold
Student 2 Student finally goes online.
After interviewing student after student and analyzing the market we are launching www.student2student.com

What is Student 2 Student providing? Another service that is going to charge students for selling textbooks? Selling textbooks to students for more than they can afford? Or are we another service that just buys textbooks back for a fraction of the original cost and then sells it to other students for, guess what, close to the original price?

Here is the news. We are pretty much the opposite! What are we all about then?
That's easy. We want to make a difference in the student textbook world and finally be the one who looks out for us students.
Textbook money right back in your pocket.

Student 2 Student is a platform where students can trade (buy and sell) textbooks to other students right on-campus, all local. You can post textbooks for sale or find the books you need for your next class, and all online.
The concept is very simple, buy and sell your old textbooks locally so you don't need to ship anything or run the risk that you never see the money.
We have over 3,500 different universities and campuses all over the U.S. and you can just sign up at your campus location and start buying and selling. That easy!
The book deal is between the seller and buyer directly. No middleman, no fee. We provide you with the platform to post and find books.

So, what is the catch?

There is no catch. No middleman, no fee, all directly from Student 2 Student.
We are students who are tired of getting ripped off by bookstores. We want to sell our textbooks for a fair price and don't accept anymore what bookstores want to give us.

What do I need to get started? Just go to "Join" and enter your email along with your University / Campus location and voila, you signed up and ready to buy and sell books.

Help us help you. Increase your chances to sell faster and find a great book deal. Tell all your friends, post on Facebook and Tweet!
